7000 islands make up what we know as the Caribbean.  It is divided into the Eastern and Western areas.  The Eastern islands include islands such as the US and British Virgin Islands, St. Martin/St. Maarten (only island that is owned by two different nationalities), Antigua, St. Barts, etc.  Some examples of the islands making up the Western area are Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, etc.  These islands offer many activities such as:  island hopping, local food and festivals, beautiful beaches with lots of watersports, and best of all a variety of accommodations that can fit almost any budget.
